Once the studio gates have shut behind you the place is yours to work and play at your leisure. This includes the courtyard (perfect for those summer evening barbeques) and the garden (great for a kick about or a tranquil place to finish that last lyric). All in all, the perfect way to relax whilst and after recording.
However, work is of the essence here - recording music and leaving you with an end product you are 100% happy with is paramount. When the red light is on and you are recording, there are no interruptions. We pride ourselves on professionalism which is why our client base is large and comes back time after time without exception.
The studio has seen many acts through its doors, including such Leeds legends The Kaiser Chiefs, The Pigeon Detectives, The Sunshine Underground and ¡Forward Russia! as well as many others from further afield. Collectively we have recorded some of the biggest artists on the planet, our skills and experience are second to none.
But the proof as they say is in the pudding, please feel welcome to come visit us at the studio where you can see the place, meet us and most importantly hear some of the music that's been made here….We look forward to working with you in the future!
Producers / Engineers
Over the years the studio has seen many producers and engineers through its doors both in a freelance and semi perminant basis. Although freelance producers still use the studio it is mainly the base of operations for a producers Matt Peel and Andy Hawkins.
Andy Hawkins is one of the easiest producer/engineers you will ever have the pleasure to work with, his musical knowledge and expertise is second to none and his sense of humour likewise.
He began his musical career in 1997, gaining a huge amount of experience as a songwriter and performer in the band Midget, who disbanded in 2001. After touring constantly and treading the boards with the band he realized that life on the road wasn’t his bag, and he began to work predominantly in the studio, working with punk rock legends such as The Damned and Ginger of The Wildhearts amongst many others. Occasionally he has been persuaded to do the odd tour when his front of house engineering talents are requested, most recently around the globe with one of Leeds’ finest exports The Pigeon Detectives.
Matt Peel much like Andy is a pleasure to work with, his quiet manner and easy going personality, along with his utmost professionalism is calming and confidence building. Nothing is too much trouble for Matt, he is a perfectionist and doesn’t rest until the job is of the highest standard possible. He began working as an engineer in 2003 after extensive experience as a musician in local bands. Like Andy he decided that he preferred the view from behind the mixing desk and began to work in earnest in the studio, his credits including Leeds-based bands such as the Kaiser Chiefs, Official Secrets Act and ¡Forward Russia!
Andy and Matt met in 2004 when Andy came up to Leeds to record an album with the now sadly defunct band Bodixa. Working together they found they shared the same approaches to recording and production and decided that they should work together on a permanent basis. At this point Andy relocated to Leeds and the two pooled their equipment to produce and add to the studio in which they now work. Since then, their extensive work together as producers and engineers has included work on the platinum-selling Pigeon Detectives album “Wait For Me”, The Candle Thieves (for Big Life Management), Grammatics (for Dance To The Radio), and Silent Film Project (for Kids Records) amongst many others.
Recently, we've been mastering some new releases for Leeds-based label Dance To The Radio, including their new compilation "Still Occupied Though You forget", which contains tracks from I Like Trains, Club Smith, Bear Hands, The Sunshine Underground and Paul Thomas Saunders amongst others. Also on the compilation is "Hold Your Breath" by ...
The Candle Thieves debut album "Sunshine and Other Misfortunes" is released on 29th of April. The album was recorded during the second half of 2009 and was completed in January of this year. The album is being released internationally so good luck to Scott and Anthony for 2010.
This month we've had the pleasure of having one of the best new bands around at cottage road. Go check out the Crookes at myspace.com/thecrookesmusic. Look out for them in 2010
Throughout 2009 we've had Leeds' finest The Pigeon Detectives in the studio demoing their new album due for release later in 2010. The lads are now almost at the end of the demoing process and they've got a great 3rd album in store for 2010. Good luck to the PD's this year and keep your ears open for it.
This January has been a busy one for us. The first two weeks was spent installing our beautiful new Amek Rembrandt mixing console. Its a massive desk and look us about half a day and 4 extra pairs of hands to get it in the place. The desk is in great condition and is now fully operational. We got the desk from Holland where it was formally owned by...
